New Chrome Release Makes WebMO Non-Functional

Post by jmcneel1 »

Good Afternoon,

It appears that the latest Chrome update has disabled a lot of the moledit javascript. Here's the error I see in the Developer Console:

Uncaught TypeError: Failed to execute 'uniformMatrix4fv' on 'WebGLRenderingContext': The provided float value is non-finite.
at m (moledit_js.nocache.js?v=22.0.009e:9:363)
at moledit_js.nocache.js?v=22.0.009e:10:56
at d (moledit_js.nocache.js?v=22.0.009e:6:55)
at moledit_js.nocache.js?v=22.0.009e:7:92

This is Chrome v 128.0.6613.84 running on AlmaLinux 9. I'll note that the behavior is duplicated on Windows 10 and Windows 11.

WebMO is still running on good old Firefox though!!

My Best,

James

Try upgarding to the NEWEST Chrome.

This appears to have been a Chrome bug that has bigget lots of OpenGL apps (WebMO included). In my testing the NEWEST build (128.0.6613.114, on Mac OS X) works fine.

Others report that, in a pinch, Firefox works too.

This bug has a fair amount of traction online (including with some big companies, whose products also were hit). I'm guessing the solution should roll out quickly, if not already, on all major platforms.

Thanks JR!

Indeed, the new Chrome update on Windows fixed everything. I'll note, however, that my Linux repo isn't offering the update yet, but I'm sure it's forthcoming.

All the best,

James
